Rishikesh
is one of the most important pilgrimage centres in India.Surrounded by hills on
three sides with the holy Ganges flowing through it, located at a height of about
1360 feet above the sea level, it is also called the 'Yoga Capital of the World'.
The whole city is considered to be a sacred place where mediating will lead to
attainment of salvation.
Rishikesh, the gateway to the Himalayas and a
starting point for journeys to other important religious places like Badrinath,
Hemkunt Sahib, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. Rishikesh nestled in the Tehri-Garhwal
region of Uttaranchal abounds in natural splendour. The spectacle of the Ganga
rushing through the Himalayan foothills is an awesome sight. Several temples dot
the banks of the Ganga at Rishikesh. Rishikesh attracts thousands of tourists
every year who come in need of some peace of mind and soul. A trip to Rishikesh

Tourist Attractions in Rishikesh
Lakshman
JhulaThe bridge has been a major attraction among the tourists to Rishikesh.
The suspension iron bridge Lakshman Jhula was build in 1929. This is where Rama's
brother Lakshaman is said to have crossed the river on a jute ropes. One can enjoy
the spectacular surroundings and the cool breeze from the River while standing
on the bridge.
Ram Jhula Ram Jhula is similar and close to
the Lakshman Jhula. This suspended bridge was recently build between Shivanand
Ashram and Sawarg Ashram. Ram Juhla is also known as Shivanand Jhula.
Raghunath
Mandir and Triveni GhatIt is the most important places for religious ceremonies
in Rishikesh. It is believed that the Ganga is joined here by the Yamuna and the
Saraswati Rivers. Geographically, however, the Yamuna joins the Ganga in Allahabad.
The dusk Aarti on the Triveni Ghat is most impressive.
Gita BhavanGita
Bhavan situated just across the Lakshman Jhula. This newly constructed building
is famous for its attractive paintings and statues from the Hindu mythology.
Bharat
MandirThe image installed in Bharat Mandir has a distinctly Himalayan
cast of features. It is the oldest temple in Rishikesh. Though the temple is dedicated
to Lord Mahavishnu, it holds a number of image normalley associated with the worship
of Lord Shiva.
AshramsMost ashrams in Rishikesh are centres
for spiritual studies which also calls for Physical disciplines. Some ashrams,
however, are monasteries. Among the better known ashrams are :- Paremarth Niketan,
Sivanand Ashram, Yoga Niketan, Omkaranand Ashram, Vanprastha Ashram, Ved Niketan,
Dayanand Vedanta Ashram, Vanmali Gita Yogashram, Shankaracharya Nagar Transcendental
Meditatation Centre, Vithal Ashram and Yoga Study Centre.
How
to Reach: Train : The nearest railway station
is at Haridwar, about 24 km from Rishikesh. There are morning and evening trains
for Delhi to Haridwar. On can take a bus, car from Railway station to reach Rishikesh.
Road : Rishikesh is well connected to all major cities
of India by road.
Accommodation :

Day
01 - Arrive - DelhiOn the 1st day you arrive at Delhi and the tour operator
takes you to the hotel where you check in. You stay at the hotel overnight.
Day
02 - DelhiOn the 2nd morning the tour itinerary includes a tour of the
city of New Delhi and that would include visits to several tourist destinations
such as Humayun's Tomb, India Gate, Birla Temple, Government buildings, the Parliament
House, Qutab Minar, Jama Masjid and the Gandhi Memorial.
Day
03- Delhi- Haridwar - Rishikesh On the morning of the 3rd day you board
the Shatabadi Express train to Haridwar. When you arrive at Haridwar you check
in at the hotel. The tour itinerary includes an afternoon tour of the several
ashrams in both Haridwar and Rishikesh. Some these ashrams besides being important
tourist destinations are recognized internationally as centers of yoga, philosophical
studies and meditation.
Day 04 - Rishikesh - Day 07
at Rishikesh (Ashram) On the 4th day you check in at one of the ashrams
in Rishikesh and the tour itinerary for the next 3 days includes attending yoga
and meditation classes at the ashram.
Day 08 - Rishikesh
- ShivpuriOn the 8th day the tour itinerary includes a drive to Shivpuri.
On your arrival here you check in at a nature camp resort. In the late afternoon
you go on a jungle walk in the reserve forest. In the late evening you attend
a campfire and have your dinner. You stay at the night overnight.
Day
09 - ShivpuriEarly in the morning on the 9th day you wake up and attend
a yoga class. After your breakfast you drive to Byasi - Kaudiyala from where you
go on a rafting trip on the river Ganges. In the afternoon you lunch at the nature
camp resort. You can spend the evening relaxing and doing your own thing after
which you attend a campfire and have your dinner.
Day
10 - ShivpuriEarly in the morning on the 10th day you proceed on a half
hour drive to Hindolakhal. Once you arrive at Hindolakhal you begin the one-hour
trek to Kunjapuri. After sightseeing and exploring Kunjapuri area you join a meditation
and relaxation class. After lunch you go back to the nature camp resort and spend
some time relaxing. Then the tour itinerary includes a trip to Chilla for a wild
life safari. You spend the night at the nature camp resort.
Day
11 - Shivpuri - DelhiEarly in the morning on the 11th day you attend a
yoga class and a question-answer session on yoga. After your breakfast you raft
down from Shivpuri to Rishikesh. You have lunch at Brahampuri. You board the train
for Delhi in the evening. You check in at the hotel on your arrival and stay there
overnight.
